Last night I tried to explain one of my favorite childhood books, Where the Red Fern Grows (with spoilers!) to someone who had never heard of it. It's impossible to do so without sounding insane, especially if you say "crazy old mean old nasty coon" a lot, which is critical for accurate plot description, and not actually offensive in context.

you could use that phrase a lot for the Republicans, again critical for plot description and not offensive in context

i read this book one saturday night when i was 7 and i had a babysitter and i finished the book and promptly started crying and cried so long and so hard that the babysitter had to call my parents and get them to come home. for reals. also: "summer of the monkeys" !!! so good!
