I usually skip CMJ altogether, but this year I'm seeing three shows by former Tallahasseean, new New Yorker and up-and-coming singer songwriter Laura Minor. I've been listening to her new cd, "Let Evening Come" for the past few months on the recommendation of my friend Brian, and I'm really excited about her three CMJ shows. I also met her the other night, and she's awesome. I suck at writing about music, so I'll just refer you to the press page on her website, where she's described as "The next Lucinda Williams." My favorite song by Laura is a duet with Eric Bachmann, former lead singer of Archers of Loaf and current frontman of Crooked Fingers. It's called "The Beast" (download.)
