"Thanks But No Thanks 1994 Courtney Love"

Season 3 of How I Met Your Mother, a show I have been giving the Entertainment Weekly Pop Culture Guilt Trip ("Please watch it America!!") about for years now, premieres September 24. And here's a really funny clip from the premiere, starring Mandy Moore. I'm dying to quote the best line but I won't ruin it. You will know which line it is. It's when she says that word they never say on TV.

(Thanks, Jen!)

and really, there's only like, two funny parts.

You're picking on the wrong show, The Onion...

In response to the comments on my last post, proof that I AM AN EVEN BIGGER NERD:

As a fan and longtime proponent of the show, I was happy to see your article about How I Met Your Mother. But:

"and how the Pogues cassette got permanently stuck in the tape deck of Marshall's Pontiac Fiero"

The Proclaimers, not the Pogues.

Yes, I'm a nerd.

There Should Be a Band Called 'Swarley'

Today The Observer observes that How I Met Your Mother is "the best television show you're not watching."

Of course, that doesn't apply to you because you ARE watching it, right?

Another Robin Sparkles Episode of HIMYM

Well, sort of -- in this Times article about how How I Met Your Mother creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays incorporate the internet into their show (and vice versa), we learn that tonight's episode, "The Bachelor Party", will feature a scene too racy for TV that will show up on the show's MySpace page  (and presumably here, since I play right into their hands.)

Until this article, I had no idea Bays and Thomas were the brains behind the hysterical 1999 Late Show hoax boy band, Fresh Step.

And...let's go to the mall, again:

"Damn You, Swayze!"

If you DVR'd last night's episode of TV's only good traditional sitcom How I Met Your Mother, (no, 30 Rock and The Office do not count) don't watch this, but if you didn't...here's the best part: Barney remembers his first time (warning: original!):

Geek side note: I love how internet-influenced this show has always been.

Also, I'm starting a thing where we just call it "'Mother", okay?

Also, you know how, with the X-Files, there were two types of episodes: the self-contained ones where something scary is investigated, and the "mythology" ones with the cigarette smoking man? You don't? You mean you didn't live with your comic book geek boyfriend all through college in the late 90's? You're so lucky! Anyway, there are two kinds of 'Mothers: the really funny ones and the relationshippy ones. So if you happen to tune in for the first time and parts of it are more plot driven and "aww" (while still containing funny Barneyisms), don't worry: next week's will probably be a nonstop laugh episode.

I know. I care way, way too much.

I am the World's Greatest Grandpa

* Wow. My gynecologist is a really good person. Still, weird to see her on page 1 of the Times first thing Thursday morning.

* I still don't understand livejournal, but nice Dwight animated gif (shown to me by fiddle)

* On tonight's How I Met Your Mother: Wayne Brady guest stars as Barney's gay black brother, which will almost certainly not be as shark-jumpy as it sounds. I trust them.

* I spent a lovely Thanksgiving in NJ with Kerry and Mark at Kerry's parents' house. And thanks to Kerry's Mom and an adorable mix-up caused by a misleading photo on the outside of the box, I'm now the proud owner of a World's Greatest Grandpa mug. I didn't even have to purchase it ironically! I brought it to work so I can trump the guy with the Initech mug at the next staff meeting.

Save Until Manually Erased

I think we can all agree: last night's episode of How I Met Your Mother was, hands down, the BEST EVER.

I've never watched an entire episode of a tv show on the internet before in my entire life, but as Slap Bet Commissioner, I demand you watch it. (You can watch the whole thing for free here, click the innertube link on the right upper corner.)

(Most of) that special, special video after the jump (spoiler alert! watch the show first.)

Make it sparkle!
