* Did anyone see the season premiere of Dinner for Five the other night? I usually find the show hit-or-miss (and must Jon Favreau mention Swingers in every episode?), but the other night was fantastic. The lineup was Jay Mohr, Michael Rappaport, Timothy Olyphant (yum), and David Milch, creator of Deadwood and someone I had never heard of previously, who completely stole the show with his amazing, self-deprecating stories.
But the best part of the show was feeling like a fly-on-the-wall witness to Guy Culture. Just the rhythm of the way these guys interacted, the under-the-breath insults I had to rewind to catch, the oneupsmanship, the clear roles each member had in the group, the way they would all gang up on one guy and then just as quickly gang up on another, the shit-talking about mutual friends who weren't there and the cameraderie. It was awesome. As a chick, it's really rare to see something like that (because unfortunately, the dynamic would have been totally different if a chick had been there) and made me sort of envious. They're re-running it all week. I highly recommend watching it - it was laugh-out-loud funny. There's a short clip here.
More later.
