Listeners Like Me

Today Gawker interviews funny singer/songwriter Jonathan Coulton

At the most recent Little Gray Books Lecture, I did a Brooklyn Lager spit-take and was reduced to uncontrollable giggles when Coulton sang his genius song "Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance." It's one of the funniest songs I've ever heard. But the only way you'll get it is if you're a NPR listener in New York, because Soterios Johnson reads the news every weekday morning for WNYC. And he reads it very seriously. And the song is about Soterios' secret double life as a raver:

Go, Soterios Johnson go
All the club kids are watching
your glowstick glow
with the light of truth you can't hide
that the news is the news but
the dance goes on forever...

It's totally brilliant. You can download it at
